Big Game Focus: Bayern Munich v Liverpool

Bayern Munich will be out to make use of their home advantage when they host last season’s Champions League finalists Liverpool. Bet on the match here.

The Bavarians are used to winning, but their run of six consecutive Bundesliga titles might come to an end because of their poor showing at the start of the season.  That notwithstanding, their form at the moment is a far cry from their earlier season form. They held Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield last month, and they have now won six of their last seven competitive games.

Liverpool for their part have not been to their usual standard of late. They managed to win their latest outing against Burnley by a 4-2 scoreline, in a fixture that we witnessed rare defensive lapse from Jurgen Klopp’s men. They have fallen short in the Premier League race allowing Manchester City to rival them for the top spot and they might be considering the Champions League as their only hope for silverware at the end of the season.

Betting preview

Liverpool have not won a Champions League game away from Anfield in 11 months now, and they are facing a Bayern side who have an incredible home record in the competition. The hosts have won an amazing 22 of their last 26 home Champions League games, making odds of 2.15 for a Home Win look attractive.

Robert Lewandowski has notched eight Champions League goals already this season, and he has scored an incredible 23 goals in his last 22 Champions League games at the Allianz Arena. He makes an excellent punt for the Anytime Goalscorer market at odds of 2.00 here.

Two of the last three encounters between the two sides have seen Both Teams to Score No, including the first leg away to Anfield. Liverpool’s attacking threat has been reduced lately and it is for that reason that backing Both Teams to Score No looks good at odds of 2.05 here.

Team news

Joshua Kimmich is set to miss this fixture due to suspension whilst Rafinha is expected to deputize in his absence for the host. Consequently, Serge Gnabry may switch flanks to accommodate the in-form Frank Ribery. Arjen Robben is expected to be ready for selection though he might settle for a position in the bench.

Virgil van Dijk is available having missed the first leg through suspension, with both Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren still sidelined. Naby Keita has a minor injury and will not feature in midweek.
