Big Game Focus: Liverpool v Newcastle

Liverpool are aiming to win their 14th Premier League fixture in a row this weekend when they host Newcastle at Anfield. Bet on the match here.

Jurgen Klopp and his charges will be aiming to pick up where they left off before the international break and they are huge favourites to extend their perfect start to the new season. A win here will see them extend their sequence of Premier League victories on the spin to 14 matches. With that in mind you can only expect an explosive outing from the home side that like heavy metal football.

Newcastle’s form is a worrying one, though Steve Bruce and his charges will find some encouragement in his team’s defensive displays and their win over Tottenham. However, it is certainly a wrong time to visit Anfield coming off the back of one win, one draw and two defeats from their opening four league matches.

Betting preview

There have been Over 2.5 Goals scored in four of Liverpool’s last five games and, when you consider the form of their forwards, there is a good case for Over 2.5 Goals to land here. You can back that at odds of 1.40.

Liverpool have scored at least two goals in their last 13 matches and are undefeated in their last 40 home matches. Newcastle are not in their best form and there is value in backing a -1 Handicap home win at odds of 1.45.

Sadio Mane has started the season well and so far he has two goals and one assist to his account in three starts. He makes excellent value for the Anytime Goalscorer market at odds of 1.95.

Team news

Jurgen Klopp has no new injury concerns following the international break as his side gears up for the welcome of Newcastle. However, Alisson, Nathaniel Clyne and Naby Keita all continue to miss out. If everything remains the same we could see the same starting line up that played Burnley at Turf Moor.

Steve Bruce has a long injury list but Dwight Gayle and DeAndre Yedlin are the closest to returning for the Magpies. The trip to Anfield comes too soon for the pair. Just like Liverpool, Bruce could name the same team that featured in the 1-1 draw against Watford.

Possible lineups

Liverpool: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firminho, Mane.

Newcastle: Dubravka, Krafth, Schar, Lascelles, Dummett, Willems, Almiron, Hayden, Longstaff, Atsu, Joelinton.
