Big Game Focus: PSG v Real Madrid

PSG and Real Madrid will clash tonight as both teams look to get an early upper hand in the race for the top spot in Champions League Group A. Bet on Champions League football here.

PSG have invested heavily over the last couple of years but they still remain without that prestigious Champions League star on their kit. They will come up against Real Madrid, the most successful team in the competition’s history, and it will be interesting to see how they fare.

Real Madrid for their part will be looking to challenge again this season after assembling a formidable squad over the summer. The arrival of Eden Hazard, as well as Luka Jovic, was meant to compensate for the departed Cristiano Ronaldo. Will the plan work out? Only time will tell.

Betting preview

PSG have scored in each of their last 24 Champions League matches, totalling 65 goals in that period. Real Madrid have seen at least three goals in 26 of their 33 Champions League matches under Zinedine Zidane, scoring in all but one of them but conceding in 24 of them. Backing Both Teams to Score is the way to go here at odds of 1.45.

Zidane saw 13 of his 16 European away days in charge witness Over 2.5 Goals. This points towards another Over 2.5 Goals game and it sounds like a solid punt at odds of 1.55.

Real Madrid have the upper hand in this fixture historically, but they have not been exactly unstoppable recently. They have drawn two of their four competitive games so far and have won just one of their last seven away games. Backing the hosts to take all three points looks good at odds of 2.20.

Team news

Paris Saint-Germain will be without Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappé when they face Real Madrid on Wednesday. The latter duo are injured whilst Neymar is serving a suspension from last season. Keylor Navas is expected to face his former club in just his second game for his new side.

Thibaut Courtois will fight it out with summer signing Alphonse Areola for a starting berth in goal. It is worth noting that Areola joined from Paris Saint-Germain in the Navas deal. Isco and Luka Modric are sidelined for the away side. Nacho and Sergio Ramos are also serving suspensions from last season and Eder Militao may be thrown in at the deep end to start.

Possible line ups

PSG: Navas, Meunier, Kimpempe, Silva, Bernat, Verratti, Marquinhos, Gueye, Sarabia, Icardi, Di Maria

Real Madrid: Courtois, Carvajal, Militao, Varane, Marcelo, Rodriguez, Casemiro, Kroos, Bale, Benzema, Hazard.
