The Bundesliga is the first of Europe’s major leagues to restart after the Covid-19 pandemic saw sports action postponed across the world. To welcome its return, we look at some Bundesliga stats for the football fans interested in the remaining fixtures. You can bet on every game and more here.

What is the Bundesliga?

The Bundesliga is Germany’s major football league, featuring some of Europe’s top teams. Their matches are renowned being entertaining and high-scoring, particularly when the biggest sides are involved!

Bayern Munich are the reigning champions, having won the title in each of the past seven seasons. Their attack includes current top scorer Robert Lewandowski, who has managed 25 league goals already this campaign, alongside Serge Gnabry and Philippe Coutinho. Before the enforced postponement Bayern had netted 73 goals in just 25 games! They are understandably the favourites to lift the trophy again.

Which teams should you follow?

Along with Bayern, the Bundesliga’s most regular contenders are Borussia Dortmund. They were the last team to win the league before the Bavarians, when Jurgen Klopp led them to glory in 2012. As it stands they are four points behind the leaders this season and, like Bayern, boast a powerful forward line. Jadon Sancho is considered to be one of the most exciting players in the world. In February he became the first teenager to score 25 goals in the Bundesliga. He was joined at Dortmund in January by Erling Haaland, who announced his arrival with a debut hat-trick against Augsburg! The Norwegian already has nine goals in his first eight league games.

There aren’t just two teams fighting for the Bundesliga title, though! Managed by Julian Nagelsmann, this season RB Leipzig have reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time. They have not lost against Bayern in the Bundesliga since 2018, while centre forward Timo Werner is just behind Lewandowski in the scoring charts.

What are the Bundesliga stats to know?

So far in the 2019/20 campaign there have been 728 goals in 224 games – that’s an average of 3.25 goals per match! Bayern lead the way with 73 goals, but every team in the division finds the net at least once a game on average. Might Over 2.5 be a good market to look at? It occurred in 67% of games this season before the break.

Both Teams to Score has been a winning bet in at least half of every team’s matches this season. It’s happened in 17 of Borussia Monchengladbach’s 25 games, including each of the last seven. Even Bayern, who are usually so dominant, have conceded 26 goals this term.

The 1-1 score line has been the most common so far this season, closely followed by 2-1 to the home side. However, 35% of the matches so far have ended in victory for the away side. Given that there will be no fans present for the final games, how will home teams fare without their usual support?

Lastly, only three teams have scored more goals before half-time than afterwards. Over 66% of Dortmund’s goals have come after the break, while Schalke have netted 67% of their goals in the second half. They meet this weekend in the Ruhr Derby!
