The Premier League is back! Here are my tips for Saturday and Sunday. Bet on the Premier League here.
West Ham 0 v 3 Man City – Saturday 10 August – Premier League – Over 2.5 Goals (1.50)
Manchester City won their final 14 league games last season and will look to carry on where they left off. The omens looks good, too. They have won on the opening weekend in each of the last eight seasons. They also have a great record at the London Stadium, where they have won on all four visits and scored a total of 17 goals. I think this will be a big Away Win.
Tottenham 3 v 0 Aston Villa – Saturday 10 August – Premier League – Tottenham Win with 0:1 Handicap (1.90)
Tottenham can finally start a season at their new stadium, where they won three of their five league matches at the end of last term. They have won 16 of their 18 games against promoted teams over the last three seasons, so it doesn’t look good for Aston Villa. The Villans are back in the Premier League after three years away and several new players need time to settle in. I see a Home Win.
Leicester 2 v 1 Wolves – Sunday 11 August – Premier League – Both Teams to Score (1.90)
These are exciting times for Leicester, who won five of their six friendlies in pre-season and have made some big signings, especially in midfield. Wolves are playing under 72 hours after an away game in Armenia, and their away form at the end of last season was poor. In contrast, the Foxes won four of their six home league games after Brendan Rodgers arrived. I’m going for a Home Win.
Newcastle 1 v 2 Arsenal – Sunday 11 August – Premier League – Both Teams to Score (1.70)
There’s been plenty of change at these clubs lately. Newcastle have a new manager in Steve Bruce and have replaced their two top scorers from last season. Arsenal have won nine of their last ten matches against the Magpies, while they haven’t lost to a team managed by Bruce since 2009. However, Both Teams to Score was a winning bet in five of the Gunners’ seven summer friendlies, so I’m backing that.
Man United 2 v 1 Chelsea – Sunday 11 August – Premier League – Both Teams to Score (1.75)
These two sides could look very different to those from last season. United have strengthened in defence and had an excellent summer, winning all six of their friendlies (although one was on penalties). This will be Chelsea’s first competitive match under Frank Lampard and they have to adapt to life without Eden Hazard. The Blues only won three of their final ten away league games last season and haven’t tasted victory at Old Trafford since 2013. I’m going for a Home Win.
