The season starts in England, France and Portugal with the super cups. I’ve also picked out some tasty games in the Eredivise and Championship. Click here to bet on all of the games this weekend.
PSG 2 v 1 Rennes – Saturday 3 August – Trophée des Champions – Over 2.5 Goals (1.40)
PSG won Ligue 1 easily last season, but their form dropped drastically in April and May. That led to them losing to Rennes in the Coupe de France final, which was Les Rennais’ first trophy for 36 years. As for this game, PSG have won the Trophée des Champions for six years in a row. I expect them to exact revenge here.
Feyenoord 3 v 0 Sparta Rotterdam – Sunday 4 August – Eredivisie – Feyenoord Win and Over 2.5 Goals (1.55)
We’ve got the Rotterdam Derby to look forward to on the opening weekend of the Eredivisie. Feyenoord won 15 of their 17 home games in the league last season, while Sparta were promoted back to the top flight after one season in the Eerste Divisie. However, they’ve lost four of their last five games against their neighbours (including a 7-0 defeat two years ago). This is a Home Win.
Liverpool 1 v 2 Man City – Sunday 4 August – Community Shield – Over 2.5 Goals (1.75)
These teams were the best in Europe last season and, even though this is a friendly, both will be desperate to win. Liverpool were runners up in the Premier League by just one point. They’ve been inconsistent in pre-season, but they welcomed back Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino in Wednesday’s win over Lyon. City won the treble in 2018/19 and also beat Chelsea in the Community Shield a year ago. They’ve won three of their four summer friendlies and I think they’ll win here.
Bristol City 1 v 1 Leeds – Sunday 4 August – Championship – Both Teams to Score (1.70)
Both of these teams are in the hunt for promotion this season. Leeds reached the play offs a year ago, only to lose to Derby in the semi-finals. They won 12 of their 24 away games last season and have been strong in pre-season. Bristol City have won four of their six matches this summer, and I think they will cause Marcelo Bielsa’s team problems. I’m going for a Draw this time.
Benfica 1 v 0 Sporting – Sunday 4 August – Super Cup – Under 2.5 Goals (1.70)
Benfica won 28 of their 34 league games on their way to the title last season, including each of the last nine. They’ve carried that form over too, winning four of their five summer friendlies. Sporting haven’t won any of their five warm-up games and I think they will struggle here. There have been Under 2.5 Goals in seven of these teams’ last ten meetings – it’s a smart bet this time around.
