Our writers choose their 2018/19 Premier League Team of the Season

The 2018/19 Premier League season has come to a close, with Manchester City crowned worthy champions after a 98-point haul. The league’s players have already named their team of the year, and now it’s our writers’ turn to choose the eleven players that have stood out across the campaign. You can bet on football here.

Steve Moorhouse

Ederson (Man City), Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace), Van Dijk (Liverpool), Laporte (Man City), Robertson (Liverpool), Fernandinho (Man City), B. Silva (Man City), Eriksen (Tottenham), Sterling (Man City), Aguero (Man City), Mane (Liverpool)

The only surprise in my defence is the inclusion of Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka. However, his stats through the season had him as the best tackler in Europe and if he keeps this up, he’ll be at a bigger club soon. My midfield is marshalled by the excellent Fernandinho, whilst Bernardo Silva and Christian Eriksen have provided creativity throughout the season. The attackers are self-explanatory, but Son and Salah will be aggrieved.

Pierre Bajyana

Alisson (Liverpool), Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Gomez (Liverpool), Van Dijk, Digne (Everton), Fernandinho, B. Silva, Pogba (Man United), Hazard (Chelsea), Salah (Liverpool), Son (Tottenham)

My back four and goalkeeper all hail from the same city. The duo of Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk has been outstanding with a perfect mix of physicality and quality on the ball. With four goals and four assists Lucas Digne has shown why Barcelona saw so much in him a few years back. Fernandinho remains the heartbeat of Man City and Silva has been world class since the turn of the year. Up front, Eden Hazard, Mo Salah and Son Heung-Min have been money for their respective teams.

Titus Mutai

Alisson, Pereira (Leicester), Van Dijk, Schar (Newcastle), Robertson, Sterling, Pogba, Fernandinho, Hazard, Aguero, Salah

As expected my team has a good representation from Manchester City and Liverpool but we have a few surprises. Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira and Newcastle’s Fabian Schar stand out. Paul Pogba is the surprise inclusion from the top six but his goal contribution from midfield is simply impressive. Salah and Sergio Aguero are at it again, with the former winning the Golden Boot for the second year in a row.

Edwin Kiplagat

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Laporte, Robertson, B.Silva, Pogba, Eriksen, Son, Aguero, Mane

City and Liverpool dominate this team. Although Van Dijk has received all the rave reviews about his performance, Alisson has been great. He’s made game-winning saves e.g against Everton and Man Utd. Robertson has provided an attacking outlet for Liverpool creating numerous goal scoring opportunities. Despite a poor season for his team, Pogba has been great. Without him, United would be in a worse position in the league. Finally, Son has stepped up big time in the absence of Harry Kane this season, becoming Spurs talisman. There isn’t much I can say about Aguero. Best striker in the league.

Jacob Vydelingum

Ederson, Doherty (Wolves), Van Dijk, Laporte, Robertson, B. Silva, Fernandinho, Eriksen, Sterling, Salah, Mane

This team is largely comprised of players from Manchester City and Liverpool as they have dominated in this campaign. Wolves’ Matt Doherty enjoyed a stellar campaign and gets my pick over Alexander-Arnold, while Eriksen gets the nod in midfield for his late goals and assists in the second half of the season. The front three have earned crucial points, although Aguero is unlucky to miss out.

Franck Ismaël Sevede

Ederson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Djik, Laporte, Robertson, Fernandinho, B. Silva, Sterling, Hazard, Mané, Aguero

I picked Van Dijk and Aymeric Laporte who gave a lot of solidity to their respective defences this season with their aerial presence. Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were stellar all season with Liverpool providing many assists to their forwards. Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva and Eden Hazard have been key to the success of their teams. Sterling, Mané and Aguero have scored many important goals for Man City and Liverpool and are as deadly a trio as you can find in England.
