Three players from Leicester’s win over Arsenal make our Team of the Week.
Sergio Rico (Fulham)
Why didn’t Fulham play like this before their relegation was confirmed? The London side won their third game in a row on Saturday against Cardiff. Rico was called into action several times to ensure that his team kept another clean sheet.
Ricardo Pereira (Leicester)
Leicester’s right back earns a place in our Team after a dynamic display against Arsenal. In addition to keeping a clean sheet, he also completed five dribbles (more than any other player), before providing a late assist for Jamie Vardy. Next up for the Foxes – Manchester City away. That will probably be slightly tougher…
Fabian Balbuena (West Ham)
Balbuena’s goal-line clearance in stoppage time at Tottenham capped a fine performance for the summer signing. It was one of five clearances that the Paraguayan made in the match as his team battled for a deserved three points.
Issa Diop (West Ham)
Diop was dominant as West Ham became the first away side to win at Tottenham’s new stadium. The summer signing made eight clearances and six interceptions as the Irons kept their first clean sheet on the road since September.
Andy Robertson (Liverpool)
Robertson reminded everyone why he was included in the official Team of the Year with two assists against Huddersfield. He has now set up 11 goals this season, equalling the record for a defender.
Mo Salah (Liverpool)
A goal either side of half time put the Egyptian King top of the Premier League scoring charts. His first contribution came inside 15 seconds, though, as he laid the ball off for Naby Keita to open the scoring. Will he claim the Golden Boot for the second season in a row?
Isaac Hayden (Newcastle)
Newcastle extended their unbeaten run to three matches with a draw at Brighton. Hayden continued his fine form with four tackles and a 92% pass success rate. He has started all of Newcastle’s 16 league games in 2019.
James Maddison (Leicester)
Maddison was a pivotal figure in the Foxes’ win over Arsenal. The number 10 dictated the game from midfield and it was no surprise when he drew the foul that saw Ainsley Maitland-Niles dismissed. He then unlocked the Gunners’ defence with a cross for Youri Tielemans to break the deadlock. That was the 14th time this season that he’s been directly involved in a goal.
Diogo Jota (Wolves)
A goal and an assist from Jota ensured that Wolves moved four points above opponents Watford. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished the weekend three points clear in seventh place which, unless the Hornets lift the FA Cup, would put them in next season’s Europa League qualifiers.
Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)
An entertaining game at St. Mary’s ended with honours even as Southampton and Bournemouth played out a 3-3 draw. Wilson was the star of the show with two goals and an assist. He now has 14 goals for the season, as many as he managed in the previous two seasons combined.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester)
Vardy’s late double sealed victory over a lacklustre Arsenal, and it would not be unfair to label his goals as somewhat typical. His first came as he chased a long pass from goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, before he rounded off the scoring with a close-range finish. He now has eight goals against Arsenal, more than against any other Premier League side.
