The selections are in for our Team of the Week!
Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester)
Under such tough circumstances it would have been easy for Leicester to drop points at Cardiff. The recent tragic events clearly affected Schmeichel, but he maintained his composure throughout and kept a third clean sheet of the season.
Seamus Coleman (Everton)
Coleman scored his first Premier League goal since January 2017 to put Everton into the lead against Brighton. No other player completed more dribbles than the Ireland international (three), who has hopefully put his recent injury worries behind him.
Fabian Schar (Newcastle)
Injury to Jamal Lascelles in the first half handed Schar his second appearance in the Premier League and, judging by this performance, he can expect to be included more often. The Swiss centre back was assured in defence and helped his side to a much needed clean sheet, and win, against Watford. Can the Magpies kick on?
Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool)
Liverpool could have won all three points at the Emirates Stadium but could not take advantage of their opportunities in the first half. Van Dijk twice went close for the visitors but it was in defence where he excelled. He had a higher pass accuracy rate than any other player involved (94%), while only Shkodran Mustafi made more clearances. He’s certainly living up to the mantle of the world’s most expensive defender.
Ben Chilwell (Leicester)
Chilwell’s star continues to rise and he was impressive once again in the Foxes’ win in Wales. Only Callum Paterson and Wilfred Ndidi won more aerial duels, while he also contributed an assist for the game’s only goal.
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
City made light work of Southampton with three goals in the opening 20 minutes to put the game beyond the visitors’ reach. Sterling produced two goals and two assists in the rout, meaning he has now been directly involved in 11 league goals this season, the joint highest in the division.
James Milner (Liverpool)
Milner opened the scoring against Arsenal with an accurate drive and thus preserved his record of having never lost a Premier League game in which he has found the net. The versatile midfielder has been a crucial figure for the Reds this season and has played a part in all of their 11 league games to date.
Granit Xhaka (Arsenal)
Xhaka has not been a popular figure at Arsenal since he arrived two years ago, but it is becoming increasingly clear that he is important to Unai Emery’s system. The Swiss had 119 touches of the ball against Liverpool and completed 85 passes, both match highs. He also made five tackles, more than any other player managed. Gunners fans will hope he can keep this form up.
Felipe Anderson (West Ham)
Anderson turned on the style as the Irons overcame Burnley on Saturday. In addition to his two goals, he also clipped the crossbar and stung the palms of Joe Hart with an audacious volley from distance. His link-up play with Marko Arnautovic is already bearing fruit.
Alvaro Morata (Chelsea)
Chelsea’s Spanish number nine was at the double as the Blues’ maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign against Crystal Palace. The former Real Madrid striker now has five league goals this season, more than he managed in his final 21 appearances in the 2017/18 campaign.
Richarlison (Everton)
Everton returned to winning ways with victory over Brighton, and Richarlison found himself amongst the goals once more with a brace. Having started the season on the left flank, the Brazilian is flourishing in a central role and has already netted more times than he did in the whole of last season at Watford.
