Three Arsenal players are included in our Team of the Week.
Alisson Becker (Liverpool)
Vital saves to stop Andre Gomes and Theo Walcott kept Liverpool level in the Merseyside Derby. Alisson has now kept nine clean sheets in the Premier League since his arrival in the summer, more than any other keeper in the division.
Ricardo Pereira (Leicester)
The Foxes kept their third clean sheet in four matches in their win over Watford, and Pereira ensured that the Hornets had little joy down the flank. The Portuguese won four tackles and made an astounding 15 clearance during the match; only three players have completed more tackles this season.
Fabian Balbuena (West Ham)
Six tackles and 12 clearances (both match highs) from Balbuena kept West Ham ahead at Newcastle as the Irons enjoyed a rare away win. Shane Duffy and Steve Cook are the only two players in the league to have made more clearances so far in 2018/19. Safety first!
Jonny Evans (Leicester)
Leicester’s run of clean sheets began just as Evans was introduced to the starting line-up, and it’s easy to spot the link. He made nine clearances against Watford and is looking like a great piece of business considering his £3.5m transfer fee.
Cedric Soares (Southampton)
The Saints full back makes our Team after his splendid free kick beat David De Gea to put his team two up against Manchester United. The hosts could not hold onto the lead, but his first goal in the Premier League was a memorable one.
Andros Townsend (Crystal Palace)
Palace have their first home win of the season as Burnley were put to the sword at Selhurst Park. Townsend looked dangerous throughout the game and scored the Eagles’ second goal with an unstoppable strike from 25 yards. That’s four defeats in five for Burnley…
Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)
Ramsey was introduced at half-time in Arsenal’s win over Tottenham to create problems for the visiting defence. It paid off. Two assists from the veteran put the hosts in control once more and, while the Welshman’s next destination is not yet known, one lucky club will be acquiring a decent player.
Lucas Torreira (Arsenal)
The diminutive midfielder is fast becoming a fan favourite at the Emirates, but scoring your first goal for the club in the North London Derby certainly helps! The summer signing from Sampdoria made a rare forward foray to complete the scoring on Sunday which, in addition to his 12 recoveries of possession, made for a good afternoon’s work.
Leroy Sane (Manchester City)
It wasn’t easy, but Manchester City extended their winning run at the Etihad in a hard-fought contest against Bournemouth. Sane caused the Cherries’ defence problems throughout and an early run led to Bernardo Silva’s opener. He later set up Ilkay Gundogan to seal the points and won three tackles; only Gundogan made more.
Javier Hernandez (West Ham)
“Chicharito” was brought into the Irons’ line-up at Newcastle to add firepower, and he did not disappoint. He showed a centre forward’s nous to convert Robert Snodgrass’ cross early on, before doubling his side’s lead when he beat Martin Dubravka at the near post. His only disappointment will have been to not score more!
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)
Aubameyang continues to shine for the Gunners and gave his best performance yet in the win over Tottenham. He opened the scoring with a cool penalty and added a second after the interval with an unerring strike that left Hugo Lloris rooted the spot. The Premier League top scorer then turned provider for Torreira as Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to 12 games in the division.
