What do you make of our latest Premier League Team of the Week?
Bernd Leno (Arsenal)
Only Wolves will know how they didn’t leave the Emirates Stadium with all three points, but the answer probably has something to do with the Gunners’ goalkeeper. Leno has displaced veteran Petr Cech and made superb saves to deny Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore in one-on-one situations. On another day, the outcome could have been very different.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Liverpool returned to winning ways with victory win over Fulham and took the lead when Alexander-Arnold’s long ball caught Fulham cold and put through Mo Salah to finish. Liverpool have now conceded just one goal in their last 11 league games at Anfield – Alexander-Arnold has started in nine of those.
Ryan Bennett (Wolves)
Tasked with keeping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette quiet, Bennett ensured that Arsenal’s strikers were kept at arm’s length from the Wolves goal. He has now featured in five matches against the Gunners, losing just once. What a record!
Juan Foyth (Tottenham)
After a torrid debut last weekend at Wolves, the young defender opened his Spurs account when he reacted quickest to head the ball past Crystal Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey. Tottenham have now won all of their last five games against the Eagles by a 1-0 score line.
Andy Robertson (Liverpool)
Robertson supplied the assist for Liverpool’s second goal with a brilliant first-time cross for new teammate Xherdan Shaqiri. After a slow start to his Anfield career, the former Hull defender has become a fixture on Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet with 30 starts in the Reds’ last 35 league games.
Fernandinho (Manchester City)
Three interceptions, four clearances, 103 touches, 75 accurate passes. Fernandinho may not be the most exciting member of the Manchester City midfield, but he is no less important.
Ruben Neves (Wolves)
No player made more interceptions during the match against Arsenal than Neves (five), while he also played more accurate passes than any of his teammates (32). It’s no wonder he has featured in every minute of Wolves’ Premier League campaign.
Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)
The Portuguese midfielder continued his fine form with an assist in both halves of the Manchester derby. First he squared the ball to namesake David Silva for a simple finish, before he rounded off a typical City passing move with a cross for Ilkay Gundogan to complete the scoring. The Citizens look frightening.
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton)
Sigurdsson’s hard work should not go unrecognised after his side picked up a point at Chelsea. The midfielder is not known for his defensive prowess, but he made four tackles and four interceptions during the match. Attacking can wait until the visit of Cardiff in two weeks’ time.
Felipe Anderson (West Ham)
West Ham’s summer signing makes our Team for the second week running after his superb equaliser at Huddersfield. He started the move with wonderful skill to beat two defenders, and was on hand to fire the ball past FIVE players on the line after Michail Antonio’s effort had been blocked. He’s coming to life now.
Salomon Rondon (Newcastle)
Rondon netted his first goals in the black and white shirt as Newcastle won for the second week running. He opened the scoring against Bournemouth with an instinctive strike, before his powerful header past Cherries’ keeper Asmir Begovic doubled his side’s lead. With the Venezuelan fit and firing, it will be interesting to see whether the Magpies can fly up the table.
