Premier League clubs continue to make signings to beef up their squad with the 2019/2020 season just around the corner. United, City, West Ham and newcomers Aston Villa have all made high profile signings. Here are some of the Premier League transfers to watch next season. Bet on the Premier League here.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Manchester United
Since Manchester United great Gary Neville announced his retirement from football almost a decade ago, United have tried and failed to replace the right-back. Rafael da Silva, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young were quick fixes for the 20-time Premier League champions in recent years. With the signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a player whose natural position is the right-back, they have finally addressed a long-standing conundrum. Still only 21 years of age, Wan-Bissaka has shown tremendous maturity during his time at Crystal Palace. Perhaps the most conspicuous thing about Wan-Bissaka, despite his background as an attacking player, is his eagerness to defend. Last season in the Premier League, he made a total of 129 tackles, which was 11 more than any other defender in the division. Therefore, he is expected to elevate his game to higher levels next season.
Tanguy Ndombele – Tottenham Hotspur
Ndombele’s rise to the top over the last few years has been incredible. In 2015/2016 he was playing in France’s fifth tier with Amiens’ reserve team. The next season, he helped Amiens earn promotion into Ligue 1, before moving to Lyon on an initial loan deal. The 22-year-old is a powerful box-to-box midfielder who’s also intelligent in possession. Ndombele should slot right into Spurs’ midfield, an area in which Mauricio Pochettino has lacked depth since the departure of Mousa Dembele in January. His dribbling and ball-carrying abilities dovetailed with his tactical intelligence should greatly improve Spurs and make him one of the players to watch.
Rodrigo Hernández – Manchester City
Manchester City record signing 23-year-old Rodrigo Hernandez, popularly known as Rodri, has been brought in to be a cover and eventual replacement of defensive midfielder Fernandinho. His remarkable distribution and clever positioning at the base of midfield has drawn comparisons with Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets. He was the only midfielder to make more than 100 tackles in La Liga last season with Fernandinho making 57. Therefore, it’s obvious to see that he’ll be a valuable piece to Pep Guardiola’s team next season.
Wesley Moraes – Aston Villa
Aston Villa have spent close to £100 million on transfers this summer. One of the additions is Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes from Belgian side Club Brugge. Moraes will be replacing Tammy Abraham who scored a whopping 26 Championship goals last season. The expectations for the 22-year-old are huge. Apart from his physically imposing figure, Moraes possesses decent pace and movement. Therefore, he cannot be used only as a target man but a player who can keep the ball high up the pitch and bringing his teammates into play. Moreover, his instinctive finishing should be important in the league. Scouting reports have shown that he’s a dynamic striker and the spotlight will be on him at Villa Park come next season.
Sebastien Haller & Pablo Fornals – West Ham
West Ham record signing striker Sebastian Haller is seen as a player who will solve their prolonged problems in that position. Last season the Frenchman directly contributed towards 40% of Eintracht Frankfurt’s league output, 15 goals and nine assists, despite starting just 23 matches. Overall, he scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists in 41 matches in all competitions last season. Therefore, he is expected to carry a huge goalscoring burden for the Hammers.
Pablo Fornals was one of the standout performers for Villarreal in last season’s La Liga. He created 45 goal scoring opportunities. Moreover, since the start of the 2017/2018 season, only one La Liga midfielder, Sevilla’s Pablo Sarabia (18), has provided more assists than Fornals who had 15. West Ham scored just 52 goals last season and for that reason, the signing of Haller and Fornals should raise that number greatly.
