Gameweek 3 of the 2023-24 Premier League season begins with Chelsea hosting Luton Town on Friday August 25, and here at Premier Bet we have got you covered with our weekly preview! ⚽
While betting tips are the main aim of the game to provide you with food for thought for your football betting selections, we will also keep you in the know with the latest team news and sharpest tactical analysis on our selected matches.
We landed two odds-against winners in Gameweek 1 and will be looking to do the same for Super Sunday’s double header! 💰
Sheffield United vs Manchester City (Sunday 14:00 GMT)
It was always going to be difficult for Sheff Utd following their promotion, especially having sold key players Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge, and they have duly begun the season with tight one-goal defeats to Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
Reigning champions Man City, on the other hand, looked ominous when keeping back-to-back clean sheets in their wins against Burnley and Newcastle. The addition of Josko Gvardiol made their defence appear almost impenetrable against the Toon Army, while Belgium winger Jeremy Doku is set to join the club to provide more pace and trickery from wide areas.
We correctly tipped the Citizens to win to nil (only away team to score) against Burnley at an odds-against price on the opening day, but that same bet is much skinnier at odds of 1.66 this weekend. Instead, we will back them to repeat that scoreline as 3-0 winners. As their early two games have shown, Sheff Utd are unlikely to be thrashed too often this season, but we do expect the visitors to be extremely comfortable at Bramall Lane.
Recommended Bet – Sheff Utd v Man City
Newcastle United vs Liverpool (Sunday 16:30 GMT)
Newcastle struggled to lay a glove on Pep Guardiola’s side, having just one shot on target across the course of the encounter at the Etihad Stadium. This was somewhat surprising after smashing Aston Villa 5-1, with their true level likely to be somewhere in between those two contrasting performances.
Despite finishing one position behind their forthcoming opponents – costing them a place in the Champions League as a result – Liverpool were the only team to do the double against Eddie Howe’s side last season, and they are unbeaten in their last 13 matches against the Magpies. Alexis Mac Allister has had his suspension overturned following his soft dismissal during their 3-1 win against Bournemouth, providing a huge boost.
For this huge clash, we are utilising Premier Bet’s new Bet Builder tool, which allows you to combine multiple selections on the same game into one bet. Given Liverpool’s attacking firepower yet defensive fragilities, we fancy Both Teams To Score, while referee John Brooks has shown 2+ cards (20+ booking points) to each team in three of his last five PL games. Lastly, both teams tend to rack up the corners, so we will back them to earn 4+ each.
