Things to look out for in the Championship: Matchday 4

The Championship midweek fixtures are set to start tonight and here is a look at some of the important things to watch out for during the action. Bet on football here

Middlesbrough to react?

Middlesbrough will be out to secure all three points as they seek the much needed first win under their new manager Jonathan Woodgate. They will be facing Wigan Athletic who have an awful away record and this will be a perfect opportunity for him to grab his first win. Wigan have lost three straight games in all competitions, while they have failed to score in five trips to the Riverside. Middlesbrough were in fine form against the lower-ranked sides last term and we expect them to see off Wigan for the third straight time at home.

Leeds out to extend impressive form

Marcelo Bielsa’s men are hoping to be able to take advantage of a mixed start when they take on Brentford. Leeds United are in front in the Championship, following their 2-0 victory at Wigan at the weekend. They were excellent through August last year, and we expect them to keep their good form rolling with another result this week. Brentford head here following a slow start and a negative result will deal a huge dent to their confidence. Leeds pack more of a punch in attack, and they should put Brentford to the sword here.

Stoke looking for redemption

Stoke City will make the trip to Preston under huge pressure following their poor start to the season. These two teams had contrasting summers, with Preston making limited signings in the transfer market whilst Stoke topped up their side with a few solid additions. The Potters have had a torrid start that has left them struggling to compete. They will need to put out a good performance here and hopefully secure their first win before it becomes too late for them to play catch up.

Charlton to prove doubters wrong?

Charlton have had a fine start to the Championship campaign and they will be out to cause more problems for Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. The Addicks were early favourites for the drop, but two wins from their last three games has proved that they are capable to compete at this level. The visitors have been less than spectacular on their trips away from home as they have failed to win 14 of their last 15 on the road. We expect more from Charlton going forward here, so we can see them notching twice for the tenth straight league game.

Fulham to make it three in a row

Fulham will host Millwall as the Cottagers try to see off their opponents and continue their fine recent run of form. Their solid start has made them favourites for this meeting with Millwall. This is also a perfect chance for Scott Parker’s side to prove themselves. Millwall have an unbeaten start behind them, but can they stretch that into this London derby? With plenty of talent in their side, we are backing the hosts, who have won 14 of their last 16 home Championship games, to emerge on top.
