Things to look out for in the Premier League

The Premier League weekend is just around the corner.  Here are some of the interesting things to look out for in these fixtures.

Pogba v Mourinho, a duel without a winner

The Red Devils are going through tough times in the Premier League this season. They are seventh in the standings after six games, and the disagreement between Paul Pogba and coach Jose Mourinho may destabilize the entire team. We hear that United’s locker room is divided with one faction on Pogba’s side and another faction with the gaffer. The Special One withdrew the vice-captaincy from the Frenchman after their defeat against Derby County on Monday, and the future of Pogba is a bit in the air. Either way, this prolonged drama will affect the morale and motivation of the team and might have an impact on the results beginning this weekend.

Chelsea to rely on Hazard

Chelsea will approach their second fixture against Liverpool with a psychological advantage, thanks to Eden Hazard’s magnificent winner at Anfield in midweek. They were able to eliminate the Reds from the Carabao Cup, and they will be largely confident ahead of the replay at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian international has been in the form of his life since the turn of the season. He is joint top scorer alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic with five goals. He is likely to start in this fixture from the word go and we should expect another great performance from him.

Wolves to extend impressive home run

Wolves will be out to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League when they host a struggling Southampton side. It has been such an impressive start to life in the top flight when you consider that they have only lost one out of six fixtures since their promotion. This achievement leaves them in good company as they join Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bournemouth as the only teams yet to drop points at home. Southampton for their part have alternated between defeat and victory in their last four Premier League away games, losing at Liverpool the last time out. The visitors will have a hard time here seeing that the hosts have proven incredibly tough to beat, even against top sides.

Lacazette to inspire Arsenal

Arsenal will be eager to extend their impressive winning streak when they host a Watford side who have made an excellent start to the new season too. Unai Emery struggled during his first two fixtures in charge of the Gunners but they have turned a new leaf in recent outings. Alexander Lacazette has been incredible when playing at home and so far he has scored in each of his last four home starts in the Premier League, netting five goals in total. The last player to score in five successive starts at the Emirates for Arsenal was Robin van Persie in the 2011-12 campaign. You can expect Lacazette to play a significant part in this match and a goal will make it even better.

The luck of the wretched

Newcastle, Cardiff and Huddersfield have not won this season in the Premier League. They will face Leicester City, Burnley and Tottenham respectively this weekend. Cardiff and Huddersfield occupy the last two places in the standings and their form is identical. Newcastle has always struggled to win at the start of the campaign, and this season is no different. Cardiff are the luckiest of the three teams as their next opponents have had issues of their own. On the other hand, Leicester and Tottenham have both won their last two fixtures. The Bluebirds could fly out of the relegation zone this weekend whilst on the other hand, the Magpies and the Terriers will have the bread on the board.
