It is no exaggeration to say that 2024 has been a year of phenomenal tennis. Characterised by emerging stars like Jannik Sinner achieving their first ever Grand Slam title as well as Carlos Alcaraz cementing his early achievements. We are currently in the early stages of this year’s Olympic games with opening round matches having begun on the 27th July. Already full of surprises, there’s no doubt these matches will keep us at the edge of our seats. One of the biggest shocks of the games so far was former champion Rafael Nadal’s early exit following his loss to Novak Djokovic. With 14-time Roland Garros titleist Nadal and reigning Paris champ Alcaraz combining their talent, this duo are at a distinct advantage playing on these clay courts yet again.

🎾US Open – Last Grand Slam Tournament 26 August – 8 September

🏆Davis Cup Finals Group Stage 10 – 15 September

Another exciting tournament in the near future is the Davis Cup Finals otherwise known as the world cup of tennis. Group stages for 16 teams will take place from the 10th to 15th September in four cities. worldwide. From the courts of Valencia to Bologna, from Zhuhai to Manchester, the world’s best players will be playing for their country to qualify for the final 8 taking place in Malaga between the 19th and 24th November. 

Throughout the year there have been many exciting tournaments at different levels which allow players from all across the world to compete. One instance of this saw tournament hosts Nigeria reach the world group II play offs for the first time. These matches also saw Namibia reaching the playoffs with their hosts. Playing for Nigeria, Christopher Bulus won all bar one of the 7 matches he played and even beat Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock. This was an impressive win for Bulus. 

Comparatively Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire were relegated to Africa Group IV next year. On the other hand Gabon beat Botswana and Mauritius beat Mozambique to win their promotions to Africa Group IV.  

There has been much excitement throughout the year and across the globe with the Davis Cup this year however fans will be looking towards the group stages of the cup from the 10th September in the four aforementioned cities. Before finally looking to the knockout stages which are being held in Malaga from 19th November.
