Plenty of action was witnessed during the weekend across European leagues and here is a look at some of the winners and losers.
Winners
Roma
Roma won their weekend fixture at home against Juventus by a 2-0 scoreline to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Two late goals from Alessandro Florenzi and Edin Dzeko gave them the much needed three points to keep tabs on AC Milan who are tied on 62 points with a better goal difference. They are now three points behind third-placed Atalanta and one adrift of Inter Milan, who have a game in hand. If they win their remaining two fixtures and results elsewhere go their way, they will qualify for the top four. All they can do for now is wait and hope for the best.
Ajax
Ajax are on the verge of winning the Eredivisie title after a commanding victory over Utrecht with a 4-1 scoreline during the weekend. They just need a point from their midweek fixture to De Graafschap before they can take the title back to Amsterdam for the first time since 2014. They were lucky to shrug off PSV who were tied on points until this weekend when they lost to AZ. Ajax will be happy with their latest result after missing out on the Champions League final when they lost to Tottenham in dramatic fashion.
Losers
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich stumbled in their quest to seal the Bundesliga title as they allowed Borussia Dortmund to close the gap to two points with one game to play. The Bavarians are chasing a record seventh consecutive league title and are now on 75 points ahead of their meet with Eintracht Frankfurt next week. Their performance typified their season that has been marred with a lot of inconsistencies and should they fail to win the title they will have themselves to blame.
PSV
PSV seemed to have cooled down their ambitions of pushing Ajax to the last day of the Eredivisie following their 1-0 loss away to AZ. Mark Van Bommel’s side have had a very impressive campaign, only that their competitors have had a better campaign. Up until the weekend they were tied on points with Ajax but now find themselves three points behind them with one game to play.
Monaco
Monaco find themselves in the thicket of the relegation battle following a nightmare season in Ligue 1. They have done well to move to safety but they lost an opportunity to confirm this when they lost during the weekend by 1-0 scoreline to Nimes. They are now tied on 33 points with Caen but have a superior goal difference that is keeping them safe for now. A win or a draw could have given them an advantage as they head to their last game of the season
