The first international break of the season is behind us, which means that it is back to the bread and butter of club football this weekend. This is a good opportunity to evaluate what betting markets have done well in the various leagues, which should hopefully give us better insight on where to put our money.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS)

Both Teams to Score has particularly shone through in the Bundesliga, where it has occurred in 61% of the matches so far. That percentage may, however, be a little bit warped given that only 18 matches have been played in the German top flight so far. The Premier League might, therefore, provide a more reliable option. Out of the 40 games played so far, both teams scored in 57% of the matches. Even promising could be the Championship, where Both Teams to Score has happened in 58% of the 72 matches.

1X2

As expected in most scenarios, you are more likely to be successful when backing a home win than a draw or an away win. This has especially been true in Serie A, where home advantage has prevailed in 54% of the 28 games played so far, with 25% of the other matches being won by visitors and 21% ending in draws. Ligue 1 is a slightly distant second in this regard, with a nonetheless solid 45% of home wins out of 40 matches. The Championship has seen three points go to the home side in 43% of their games so far, compared to the Premier League’s 42%.

Over 2.5 Goals

The Premier League is widely accepted as the most thrilling and competitive of the top leagues in Europe. They are truly living up to these expectations, if the early season is anything to go by. 60% of the matches so far have featured Over 2.5 Goals. Champions Manchester City unsurprisingly lead the way in the goal-scoring charts with 11 goals, while Chelsea have ten. Huddersfield Town and table-propping West Ham United have conceded the most, with ten each on the ‘conceded’ column.

56% of the Championship games have also featured Over 2.5 Goals, as have 54% in Serie A.

Half With Most Goals

There have been more goals in the second half of matches in the Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga and the Championship. Ligue 1 has the highest percentage of goals scored in the second period – 72 goals (66.1%) out of 109 goals. 57.7% (45 goals) in Serie A have also come in the second half, as opposed to 33 in the first half. The Championship once again proves to be a marvellous hunting ground for punters, with 110 goals (55.3%) having been scored in the second half, with 89 in the first.

Over 2.5 Goals and 2nd Half With Most Goals generally look like the some of the more favourable markets to invest in, while the Championship promises good returns for those who know where to look.
